Taylor Stevens was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Ponaganset High School. She received many accolades during her time at Ponaganset, including the 2013 Brian Fell Scholarship. She went on to play volleyball and competed on the track & field team for Stonehill College and is now the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Bowdoin College in Maine. Taylor’s focus, determination, and work ethic were second to none and she remains one of only three Ponaganset student-athletes to earn the prestigious Gatorade Player of the Year award for her outstanding senior year in volleyball.
Taylor was named the 2012-2013 RI Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year, the 2012 RI Division 1 Player of the Year, 2012-2013 Cox Player of the Year, Providence Journal 1st team All-State her junior and senior years, Providence Journal 2nd team All-State as a sophomore, four-time 1st Team D1 All-Division, 2012-2013 Ponaganset Volleyball Team MVP and captain. In 2020 the Providence Journal named Taylor to the All-Decade Girls Volleyball 2nd Team. In her junior year, Taylor Stevens led her team to the D1 State Championship match, finishing as the State Finalist Runner Up.
As a track and field athlete at Ponaganset, Taylor competed in many different running and field events. Taylor found the most success in the high jump, javelin, triple jump, and 100-meter dash. Taylor contributed to her team’s success in winning the Northern Division Championships her senior year with a 1st place finish in Javelin, 2nd place High Jump, 3rd place 100-meter dash. Taylor qualified for the State & New England Track & Field Championships in the Javelin & Triple Jump and in 2012, and in the Javelin & High Jump in 2013. Taylor was named MVP of the outdoor track team her senior year. She went on to compete in high jump and javelin her freshman year at Stonehill College.
At Stonehill College Taylor Stevens was the starting setter receiving several NE-10 Honors for Setter of the Week, Rookie of the Week, All-Tournament Team, and she earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team her freshman year. Taylor is continuing her love of the sport of volleyball through coaching at Bowdoin College, where the team has won a Regional Championship and Conference Championship in her time there. Taylor lives in Portland, Maine and continues her athletic pursuits by playing indoor and outdoor volleyball, skiing, and mountain biking.
