William “Billy” Tenaglia was a three sport athlete that competed his best on the big stage. Billy attended Ponaganset High School from 1987-1991. During that time he was a star on the football, basketball and baseball teams. He was an All League athlete in each of these sports. He was a standout on the gridiron as a slot receiver, defensive back, and kick returner. As a basketball player, Billy excelled as a pure point guard who was terrific as a shooter and passer. On the baseball field, Billy patrolled center field like no other and was a clutch hitter and excellent base stealer. He epitomized what we consider an all-around athlete. Billy was honored his senior athletic awards banquet with the prestigious Brian Fell Memorial Scholarship Award.
Upon graduation from Ponaganset, Billy attended CCRI and played basketball for the legendary Vin Cullen. After graduating from CCRI, he transferred to Rhode Island College where he graduated with a BS in Education. Since graduating, Billy has been teaching Physical Education and Health for the Coventry School System for the past 19 years. He has coached middle school baseball, softball, and boys basketball as well as high school girls basketball for the Knotty Oakers. He did return to his alma mater to coach football for several years. He has been the director of the Coventry Hoopsters Camp for the past 17 years. He lives in Cranston and has two beautiful daughters, Madeleine and Daisy, ages 10 and 7.
