Julie Ann Stockwell, a member of the class of 1996, is one of the most distinguished and accomplished athletes Ponaganset High School has ever produced. Julie’s basketball career at Ponaganset was exceptional. Winning four straight Division I titles and four straight State titles for the Chieftains. Julie finished her career as a member of the prestigious 1000 Point Club at Ponaganset, with 1080 total points.
Julie was a four-year starting varsity volleyball player, leading her team to two state title matches. Julie is one of only five athletes in Ponaganset history to earn First Team All State four times in her athletic career, garnering the prestigious award in basketball and volleyball her junior and senior years.
Julie was awarded a basketball scholarship to Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. Playing for Stonehill she lead the team to the NCAA tournament three of her four years and had become one of Stonehill’s most decorated athletes in their history. Upon completion of her degree in elementary education Julie played professional basketball in Europe for one year where she lead the Musel Pikes team in Luxembourg to the nation’s Division II Championship. She is now a fourth grade teacher in Southbridge, Massachusetts.
