Soccer, Wrestling, Outdoor Track & Field
Stephen was a four year, three sport athlete at Ponaganset High School. He led the charge for his teams on the soccer field, on the wrestling mat, and on the pole vault runway where he competed for individual, school, and state records. As a team captain and MVP for all three sports, Stephen was a leading scorer in soccer which earned him 1st Team All-Division, Woonsocket Call All-Star, and All Tournament Team honors. In wrestling, he was JV State Champion, Academic All-State, All-Division, Woonsocket Call All-Star, Class C State Champion, 2nd Team All-State, 2nd place in the Class B Championships and undefeated in the 145 weight class, all by pin. On the pole vault runway, he placed 3rd in the N.E Championships which was the top placement for a Chieftain athlete in the school’s history along with selection as a Woonsocket Call All-Star and the Northern Division Champion. During his senior year Stephen was a Woonsocket Call All-Star, Northern Division Champion, first team All-State .
After graduating in 2001, Stephen continued his athletic career at Alfred University. He became the NY Indoor Track and Field state champion with a record vault of 15’5.5”, and placed first in the ECAC Championships. He also placed 5th in the 2004 Men’s Decathlon at the NY State Championships.Stephen, with a degree in Ceramic Engineering, is now a manager and supervising engineer for Zampell Refractories in Putnam, Ct. He lives in Dayville, with his wife Alexandra and daughter, Vera.
